Concept
of Mental Health and Bach Flower Therapy: |
Often
we do not hesitate while discussing our body injuries, aches
or pains but not so keen to talk about our behavioral
negativities -
like a suspicious nature, paranoid
tendencies,
perverseness, laziness, absentmindedness, escapism or shilly-shallying
tendencies of our nature OR like that
-Why? -Because we all tend to
hide our behavioral negativities. We invalidate them. We
knowingly ignore them. We try to take our mind off our problems. We fight ourselves so that we don't have to experience
that unwanted feeling. We tend to shove our behavioral negativities deep into our being, pushing them deeper and deeper into ourselves, until after a while we can no longer see them.
We think ourselves, "Well, I have managed them". But are we really? Did we actually release
those
behavioral negativities from the core of our psyche or did we just hide them from
ourselves for a time being? How
do we cope with reigning negative emotions OR stressful life situations? -our coping styles can influence our overall health. The researchers have established links between
overall health and
the innate nature of a person. Many body ailments and ill-health conditions are in fact an
outcome of the gradually accumulated 'emotional Imbalances' OR 'behavioral negativities',
at the core of our psyche, over the period of time. e.g. chronic depression may cause hyperacidity,
which may convert into stomach ulcer in
its later stage, melancholic or insomniac tendencies may be an outcome of
persistent despondency, worries, agony etc, uncontrolled anger may
trigger hypertension etc. That's why we often see that people showing constant hurriedness, intense
competitiveness and free-floating hostility are easily prone to many
ill-health conditions like heart
attacks or anxiety attacks.
We cannot direct the wind but we can adjust the sails. A person cannot directly choose to change his or her
inherent nature, but they can choose
to control their faulty, negative or pessimistic thinking pattern, and so indirectly, yet surely,
can shape their circumstances.
Owing to reigning Negative emotions, many people experience 'emotional imbalance' at times, which
may affect their ability to handle day-to-day problems
as well as tough life situations. It can be caused by a wide range of life events, such as
life's stressors, relationship problems or a death of someone
close to them. Such traumatic events can
happen to anyone at any time. Over the period of time, those incidents
trigger a sequence of 'negative
emotions' (i.e. frustration,
melancholy, persistent agony, mental instability, uncontrolled anger, inferiority complex etc.), which ultimately culminates in
a body ailment or ill-health condition.
However, 'emotionally
imbalanced person' does not imply that the person is out of control or insane rather it represents
a weak (pathetic) capacity of that person to face the
life
situations that he (or she) come across, irrespective of the
gravity of those life situations, since its gravity could be
relative-trifle to serious- from person to person. -such
life situations are
really common and are inevitable part of our life journey, where most of the people find themselves as petty and
forlorn. Majority of the people feel guilty or find themselves under pressure while facing
such life events however, if we didn't experience the bad times, we couldn't appreciate the good ones half as
well!
Although
we have got all heavenly pleasures and comforts at our disposal, it is of no use if
we are not happy inside. (-means if we are in the emotionally
imbalanced state of mind.) Possession of material riches, without inner peace, is like dying of thirst while bathing in a lake.
We can
perceive the ill-effects of our "emotional imbalance" on our lives
--at all the time-- in the form of pains
or pleasures associated with either of our "behavioral
negativities". Pain and pleasure are the two
basic instincts of our innate nature and life is swinging in between
them. When we
become aware of the fact that all the life lies between
opposites -pain and pleasure- we
must realize that two opposite forces that tend to counterbalance each other to produce a balance in all things controls life.
This means that, if our innate nature is "emotionally
balanced" between the basic instincts i.e. pain and pleasure, we shall be happy, regardless of our external conditions, but if
we are "emotionally imbalanced" we shall never gain the
health and happiness, no matter how much we try to change our external circumstances.
That's
why emotionally balanced state of mind is considered to be a
decisive factor in determining the overall health and wellness of a
person. Most of the people would endorse the belief that being in emotionally balanced state of mind can only support whatever medical treatment you initiate and may signify the difference between success and failure.
Obviously, if
we could find the ways of dealing with 'emotional imbalance', then
we would be helping ourselves not only to look after our mental health but also towards physical, social and spiritual
health too.
Emotional well being is the most important ingredient that deeply affects
our psyche as well as physical body. It is now evident
that, 'emotional equilibrium' plays a crucial role while representing
the overall health.
The greater
we are "emotionally balanced", the more relaxed and positive we are, the less stress
we suffer, the better is our overall health, means
when our physical body is perfectly tuned to our innate
nature (-"emotionally balanced" state of mind), then it is a true representation of a dynamic stage of health.
An
'emotionally balanced' person derives immense pleasure out of his
(or her)
work that ultimately brings a state of gratification and leads to well being. In
different words we can say, radiant health is
an indication of an immense satisfaction of a well-being that comes
out of fulfilling the commitments and responsibilities by way of doing what
we can, even with the assistance of limited available
resources that we have got.
On the other hand, If we could not fulfill those commitments and
responsibilities, it will make us prey to shame, guilt, fear, anxiety or doubt, which
may weaken our mind, body and spirit; and ultimately opens the door to disease and
morbidity, obviously we can never consider an emotionally imbalanced person as a healthy one. Perhaps perfect health does not mean that
we will live for a 100 years, nor will it protect us from hazards or
accidents; but the essence of life is to be found in its quality.
This means that,
our "state of mind" is the prime factor that determines the quality of
our life; naturally "emotionally balanced" mental status is a major indication of sound
health.
Being
"emotionally balanced" means that your perceptions and feelings are functioning correctly, such that you do behave in a normal manner.
A purpose of one's life provides the best chance for well-being, happiness and longevity.
For a person, a dynamic state of health is influenced by a his (or
her) innate nature and their existing circumstances and it also
represents soundness of
of that person's mind, body, and spirit.
According to Bach Flower Therapy
, every living
creature signifies a harmonized merge of physical body and innate nature.
While representing a person, there must be a person (body) and personality (mind) in combine, irrespective of their proportion of tuning.
A person with moderate emotional-conflicts
(-"emotionally balanced" state of mind) between his "inner-self" and
"false self" represents
a perfect tuning between his physical body and personality (mind) and promotes healthy personal decisions, however
a person having emotional-conflicts in excess or dearth fosters negative emotions
that leads him to 'emotional imbalance', which on
accumulation, will make his immunity frail and his physical body will
become easily susceptible to disease or harmful conditions. Level of
tuning between a person (body) and personality (mind) in combined together
will represent a level
of health and happiness of that person. Therefore, achieving
'emotional equilibrium' (-means
moderate emotional-conflicts)
is the basic requirement
for deriving health and happiness by whatever means.
